Share Your Images and Videos Easily

Flickr is an image and video hosting website, web services suite, and online community platform. In addition to being a popular website for users to share personal photographs, the service is widely used by bloggers as a photo repository.  As of June 2009, it claims to host more than 3.6 billion images, up from 3 billion in November 2008.

Setting Up Your Flickr Account

Flickr is going to use your Yahoo account if you have one. If not you will be directed how to set up a yahoo account easily! Click on create your account.

Once you are set up in Flickr you will be directed to:

  1. Create a Buddy Icon
  2. Choose Your Custom Flickr  URL
  3. Personalize Your Profile

Your buddy icon can be the default smile face they have or you can browse your pictures or computer and use one of your great photos, you will be able to crop it so don’t worry if it is not the perfect size!

I used momtechnology for a custom URL.

Personalize your profile. Note this is NOT required.

Next you will be able to:

  1. Personalize Your Profile (again)
  2. Upload Your First Photos
  3. Find Your Friends On Flickr

I realized my name was being used instead of Mom Technology so I fixed this in Your Profile.

Uploading photos was much quicker than I anticipated! More time to play!

Finding friends is easy with the invite and search functions. I joined the National Aquarium Group and found some amazing photos and I added my iPhone photos of Jelly fish that I had taken at the National Aquarium in Baltimore!

What will you do with your pics, what groups will you find, what will you print?

What can you do once you have opened your flickr account?

  1. Join Groups
  2. Make Prints
  3. Keep In Touch with Family and Friends

I searched jellyfish in the groups section and was surprised to find there are 420 groups about Jellyfish! Search your interest and you may be pleasantly surprised to see what you may find.

flickr has you covered for prints and gifts! Want to make note cards, greeting cards, mini cards, birth announcements, moving cards, sticker books, book store quality books, posters, canvas, framed pictures? You name you should be able to find it within the flickr website.

Ready for your friends and family to see your photos and videos? Send them an invite or search for them on the Flickr site.
