What is a blog
“Blog” is an abbreviated version of “weblog,” which is a term that describes web sites, which maintain an ongoing chronicle/journal/news content/ of information. Good content = Great Website/blog
Who can blog
Anyone can blog. When I first read a blog I thought it was a diary of sorts. It was so personal and in the beginning of blogging maybe it was more that way. Now a blog is still personal but not detailing your every move or feeling but honing in on your niche and creating a captive audience.
A few simple tips
Know your Niche
A niche is simply your specialty. Know what you like to write about, who you are so you can be passionate about your blog.
I am a Mom who ran a business so I know about being a mom, blogs, facebook, twitter, etc.
I found my niche to be Moms and technology. It is broad but it is still narrowed, as some things would not be found on this blog such as hay fever.
If you have something you are passionate about or something you want others to learn of, you may consider a blog.
WordPress
Start with http://wordpress.com/
WordPress.com is free and all you need to get started is an email account.
If you plan on blogging for a while and want to make it into something more then a personal blog for a few friends then you should visit http://wordpress.org
With wordpress.org you need a domain name and a host.
What is a Host
A Host is a company that will, for a monthly fee, store and maintain your website/blog on their server. Choice-Bluehost
Domain Name
A domain Name is what your site will be called. http://www.name.com
for short- www.name.com You will need to purchase this name or it will be free if you host through bluehost.
What is a theme
A Theme is what your site/blog will look like. There are many free themes to choose from or you may choose to purchase a theme and receive support after your purchase.
